Market Risk

Market risk is the risk of loss arising simply from changes in the price of an asset.  Consider the simple example of a person who invests his/her entire life savings in the shares of a company today, only for that company to go bust (and for its shares to be rendered valueless) tomorrow.  The investor would have lost the entirety of his/her savings overnight.  That is market risk.
